Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead ~ Chapter 17

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books and re-discover them we created this challenge to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book.
We decided to re-read Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead first.

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead
Paperback, 332 pages
Published August 16th 2007 by Razorbill

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter seventeen:

  • page 228 - 246
  • First sentence:
A few days later, Lissa found me outside the commons and delivered the most astonishing news. The next day, it fully hit me how much things had changed since the Jesse-and-Ralf rumors first started

*spoiler alert*

Aw, no Christian fix in this chapter. Too bad. But it was still a good one! Lissa told Rose she could come on a shopping trip with her, Victor, Natalie, Camille and a bunch of guardians, including Dimitri. Of course Rose is really happy to be finally allowed to do something. But before that there was another dead animal incident. This time it was a dove. At least it wasn't another bunny. But yeah. Still gross. I love how Natalie was all freaked out about it, pretending she didn't know anything. Ha-Ha.
So the shopping trip turned out to be a training excercise for Rose, which I think pretty good for her. Also, Dimitri had again some wise words for her of course. Once again, you can see how much Rose has changed. She stayed on guard, close to Lissa but wasn't all over the clothes or anything and only let Lissa buy her this gorgeous red dress. Also Rose wore her hair up just like Dimitri had said. Hee hee. Adorable.
There was also more talk about Sonya. And I realized I've been spelling her name wrong all this time. How embarrassing. But anyway we know now how she killed someone to turn herself Strigoi and when Rose found out that she took Lissa straight out of the academy. Gotta love flashbacks!

Quote:

"Did you see the dress?"
"I saw the dress."
"Did you like it?"
He didn't answer. I took that as a yes.
"Am I going to endanger my reputation if I wear it to the dance?"
When he spoke, I could barely hear him. "You'll endanger the school."

  2. Interesting how Natalie is always around when something dead turns up... I never noticed it before. I loved the exchanges between Dimitri and Rose and they realise more and more what is developing between them :) Great post Stephanie!!
